The Yuan fetes the second anniversary of its founding, razes its paywall

As The Yuan celebrates our second anniversary, our Chief Editor Wang Shifeng briefly reviews AI developments over the past two years, and announces that our paywall has ended, as we are shifting from a paid subscription model, to a voluntary contribution plan to defray our costs.

SHANGHAI - July 1 marks the second anniversary of the Yuan’s founding. These two years have witnessed awe-inspiring developments and the breakneck pace of their occurrence in the artificial intelligence (AI) space. Thus, as we celebrate our two-year anniversary, we note that our establishment serendipitously coincided with a vertical trajectory in AI’s development arc.

During this eventful period, AI deployed to devise new tests and treatments to vanquish a century pandemic, huge strides came in AI technologies countering climate change and environmental degradation, agriculture, healthcare, logistics, mobility, pharmaceuticals, robotics, telecommunications, warfare, and myriad other areas spanning the spectrum of human activity. General AI became prominent as a Google engineer declared its LaMDA chatbot sentient, and generative AI such as Dall-E and ChatGPT unleashed firestorms. The Yuan offered expert commentary on these and other advances.
