The term ‘global empathetic horizons’ refers to the combined use of AGI and neurology to elevate the understanding of emotions, limit misunderstandings, and clear hurdles to communication for more fruitful and harmonious communication worldwide, states AI engineer Douglas Amante.

SINGAPORE - The distinction between artificial general intelligence (AGI) and neuroscience has blurred ever more in recent years, opening up new opportunities to enrich understanding of human emotions.

This article looks at the use of the resulting insights to forge a creative union of AGI and neurology and put together a framework known as global empathetic horizons (GEH). GEH seeks to develop deeper knowledge of emotional processes and more compassionate interactions worldwide in the hope of minimizing misunderstandings stemming from cultural and linguistic differences. This strategy also promises to change how robots understand and interact with human emotions by combining AGI's processing power with neuroscience's full understanding of brain processes to pave the way for a new era of empathetic technology.

The hunt for AGI actually able to perceive, interpret, and respond to human emotions with the depth and sensitivity of human empathy has been a challenging one to date. AGI’s capacity to grasp, acquire, and apply information across a wide range of jobs and domains offers an unmatched opportunity to narrow this gap. Even if not yet fully possible today - the hallucinations of ChatGPT and other faulty AGI come to mind - one may envision a (not-too-distant) future when this is more than just an intriguing theory. Neuroscience offers instructive insights into the biological basis of emotions - including their physiological, cognitive, and social components.

The GEH framework bids to connect these two realms to create systems that actually perceive and engage - with resulting human-machine interactions that a
